The vegetables are in the ground, all is mulched, and the fence is nearly complete (we’re having to extend it to 6 feet to keep the deer out). Now we just wait for the produce to grow. Yesterday I planted six tomato plants -- 1 each of Big Beef, Better Boy, Early Girl, and Brandywine, and 2 cherry tomato plants. Also four banana pepper plants (we’ll have those coming out of our ears if the moles don’t get them first), and three hills of squash (2 zucchini and 1 straight-neck yellow). Got lots more room, but decided to stop with that, since we’re combating moles and other varmints. If we’re successful this year, we’ll have beans for sure next year. I’ve started some nasturtiums from seed, which may help some with the pests.
The tomatoes are loving the current spate of hot weather. We had a high of 85 yesterday and 94 today, with more 90s predicted through Tuesday. There’s a chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday -- sure hope it does, as it will really help my plants get established. Beginning Wednesday we moderate to more seasonable temps, mostly mid to upper 70s.
Nice shot of my neighbor’s house in the background. :)
